{Spotlight Project} Becca Gets Textural for Father's Day

In an attempt to get ahead of the game, I've actually started making Father's Day cards already! Can you see me patting myself on the back? Because I am.

Today, I'm going to walk you through how to create this dramatic, striking but (most importantly) easy-to-make Father's Day card using texture paste and Distress Spray Stains.

I'm working with a medium weight watercolor paper for today's tutorial. Because this project can get a little bit wet, it's important to have a paper that can soak in some moisture without pilling or warping.

I began by making two backgrounds out of one 8x4 inch sheet of watercolor paper. I spritzed Blueprint Sketch, Peacock Feathers and Barn Door Distress Spray stains onto the a craft mat, sprayed with a tiny bit of water, and then used the double-dipping technique to create this dramatic effect.

Once the background was completely dry, I decided to add a little more visual and textural interest with some metallic gold embossing paste.

I spread a layer of paste through the ARTplorations Dots All Over stencil. I really love using my heat tool to dry the texture paste because it starts to crackle and bubble.

You can see the difference between the two drying patterns in the above pictures. Both are really pretty anyhow, but there's that extra bit of specialness (in my opinion) to the heat tool dried paste.

Next, I made a sentiment using words from the Bloom Sketches stamp set and the Sketchy Alphabet stamp set. I embossed it in a metallicy goldy bronzy (somewhere in there) powder.

I painted the "DAD" in with some Blue Patina Perfect Pearls mixed with a little bit of water.

Then I added some faux stitching to a die cut circle using a metallic Faber Castell Pitt Artist Pen.

I put it all together and viola!

A gorgeous, dramatic, yet still manly father's day card! Woop!

I'd love to see what you're making for Father's Day. If you make a card that's inspired by this project, make sure to link up to the Spotlight Project Showcase gallery for your chance to win some serious STAMPlorations swag!
